Steve Spurrier proved to be a big thorn in the side of his former team as he leads the Gamecocks to an improbable 30-22 win over the 12th ranked Florida Gators in Columbia.
USC jumped to a 20-7 lead in the second quarter after a second Daccus Turman TD run at the 7:50 mark. However, the extra point was blocked and returned for two points, making the score 20-9. The Gators closed the gap to 20-19 in the third quarter, but Sidney Rice made the play of the day when he turned a short pass reception into a 64-yarder down to the Florida 1-yard-line.
RB Mike Davis took it in from there and the Gamecocks never looked back, beating Florida for the first time since 1939.
