South Carolina edges out its arch-rival Clemson 7-3, in a game dominated by the defenses. A crowd of 53,000 was on hand in Clemson, which was the largest crowd to see a sporting event in Palmetto State history.
The fans were barely in their seats when Clemson’s Jack Anderson returned the opening kickoff 72 yards, but was held out of the endzone. The Tigers settled for three points, which was all the scoring until the third quarter when Carolina freshman Tyler Hellams returned a punt 73 yards for a TD. The Gamecocks defense intercepted three Tiger passes down the stretch to secure the 7-3 victory.
