The “Black Magic” Gamecocks scored a memorable 22-21 come-from-behind victory over Clemson in Death Valley.
Ninth-ranked USC found itself trailing 21-3 in the last minute of the first half when Quinton Lewis scored on a five-yard run on a gutsy fourth down call by Joe Morrison. A Carolina sack for a safety and a FG closed the gap to 21-15 in the fourth quarter. The stage was set for the heroics of QB Mike Hold who drove the Gamecocks towards the winning score.
Hold did the honors himself as he scored on a one yard run with 0:54 left to give Carolina one of its great all-time victories.
