Based on how the two teams have played so far this year, South Carolina’s best chance to pull the upset over Auburn on Saturday is to get out to an early lead in the first quarter.
The first quarter is the only one in which South Carolina has outscored Auburn in total points this year. The Tigers have scored at least 32 more points than the Gamecocks in every other quarter.
The Tigers have also allowed 70 more points than the Gamecocks in the first quarter so far this year, more than any other quarter.
The Gamecocks have also given up 31 more points than the Tigers in the 4th quarter so far this year, another reason USC needs to get out to an early lead.
South Carolina has had possession of the ball for an average of 2 minutes and 15 seconds longer than Auburn in the first quarter this year.
