The Gamecocks rout the visiting Clemson Tigers 90-70 at a sold-out Carolina Coliseum.
Inspired by USC coach George Felton’s blazing halftime speech, Carolina reeled off the first 17 points of the second half, extending a 4-point lead to 21 quickly. The Tigers would never get closer than 15 the rest of the way, and are handed their first loss of the season.
John Hudson scored 18 points for USC, including six in the 17-point second half run. The Gamecocks handed out 27 assists, with guards Brent Price and Barry Manning getting six each.
The ’88-’89 Gamecocks squad had a nice year, going 19-11 before losing in the NCAA Tournament first round to NC State.
