Carolina stormed into College Park and hammered the Maryland Terrapins 101-68.
The Gamecocks showed why they were ranked in the top 10. It was all Carolina from the tip, as they raced to a 50-25 lead at halftime, shooting 54 percent.
Legendary John Roche tied the USC record for assists in this game with 13, while also scoring 27 points. Tom Owens was dominant as usual, scoring 29 points and collecting 17 rebounds.
This was arguably the greatest team ever at Carolina. They won 25 and lost only 3, and went undefeated in ACC play at 14-0.
Sadly, this team didn’t get to compete in the NCAA tournament, losing to NC State in the ACC tournament finals in 3 OTs. Only one team per conference went to the NCAAs then.
