The Gamecocks broke a three-game losing streak to rival Clemson with a 75-63 win at Frank McGuire Arena.
The sellout crowd (the first in five years) watched as three seniors powered the USC attack in this one. Darryl Martin (18 points, 5 rebounds), Terry Dozier (16 points), and Tony Shaw (12 points) were outstanding in giving Coach George Felton his first victory over the Tigers.
Carolina led by eight at the half, and but couldn’t put the Tigers away completely until Brent Price made his only basket with 1:03 left that stretched the lead to eleven.
Coach Felton’s second-year team went on to post a 19-10 record, but missed out on post-season play.
