Fans on hand at the Carolina Coliseum witnessed the highest scoring game in school history, as the Gamecocks defeated the Tennessee Volunteers 111-107 in two overtimes.
Troy McKoy’s 18-foot shot at the end of regulation kept the Gamecocks hopes alive and sent the contest into overtime.
The roles were reversed in the first overtime period as UTs Allen Houston sank a three-pointer with five seconds left to extend the game into a second OT period. Finally, in the second overtime period, USC was able to build a little cushion at 102-94 with 2:54 left. Typical for this game however, Tennessee roared back to cut the margin to one point with 0:12 left. However, Carolina’s Edmond Wilson tipped in a missed free throw in the closing seconds to finally secure victory in this classic SEC contest.
Junior Emmett Hall had a monster game for USC, scoring a career-high 28 points and snagging 12 rebounds as well.
