Carolina found an unlikely hero in its run to the SEC Tournament championship game.
In round two, Junior forward Leonard “Bud” Johnson stepped in for the injured William Gallman and had the game of his life in Carolina’s 71-60 victory over Florida. Johnson accumulated his first double-double with 13 points and 10 rebounds after Gallman left the game early in the first half. He had averaged only 1.9 PPG during the season. BJ McKie led the Gamecocks in scoring with 15. Ryan Stack added 12, along with 6 rebounds.
This started a nice run in the SEC Tournament in Atlanta for USC, as they made it all the way to the championship game before losing. USC also vaulted to a third-seed in the NCAA Tournament as a result.
