Sweeping SEC opponents is not easy, but the Gamecocks were able to pull it off against tough SEC East foe Vanderbilt.
They actually made it look easy in game three behind pitcher Blake Cooper in an 11-3 win. The junior right-hander was outstanding in the complete game victory. Cooper had some trouble early, but was able to get out of the first two innings allowing only one run. Then Blake took control, retiring the next 11 straight batters, and did not allow a run until the eighth inning.
USC hitters supported Cooper with 16 hits, including home runs from first-basemen Nick Ebert, and left-fielder DeAngelo Mack. Mack’s two-run shot in the sixth essentially put it out of reach at 7 to 1.
Not only were the bats hot in this game, but the Gamecocks had a big offensive weekend overall vs. Vandy. USC cracked ten homers and scored 33 runs during the three-game sweep.
