It was a big day for the USC softball team. As the 2nd-ranked squad prepared for the inaugural SEC softball tournament, they learned of their clean sweep of conference awards.
Senior pitcher Trinity Johnson was the unanimous pick as SEC player of the year. Coach Joyce Compton was named SEC coach of the year, and four other USC players were named to the All-SEC team.
The stats compiled by Trinity Johnson were staggering. She posted a 30-2 record with a nation-leading 0.21 ERA! She also averaged 12 strikeouts per 7 innings pitched.
Other Gamecocks named to the first-team were DH Tina Pew and outfielders Kim Pietro and Chanda Lee. Shortstop Kendra McCutcheon made second-team All-SEC.
The Gamecocks had earned the #2 ranking by compiling an amazing 57-3 record. They were also an impressive 25-1 in SEC play. The team made it all the way to the Women’s College World Series before being eliminated by Michigan.
