Carolina continued its season-long dominance over Clemson with an 8-6 win over the Tigers in Clemson. USC made it 5 and 0 in the season series with one game left to play.
In this one, it looked as if Clemson would finally break through and pick up a victory after scoring two runs in the first inning off starter Brian Currie. However, it quickly turned into a topsy-turvy affair with the two teams exchanging leads through the first five innings.
Then, with the game tied at 6 in the seventh inning, first basemen Joe Datin got the big blow for the Gamecocks when he hit his 22nd homer of the season, a two-run shot. Datin’s blast made the score 8-6, which was the final score. Datin along with shortstop Jeff Barns were the hitting stars for USC with three hits each.
