Houston rookie shortstop Adam Everett connected for his first major league grand-slam in the first inning off Cincinnati pitcher Danny Graves.
Thanks in large part to the former Gamecock, Houston pounded the Reds with a six-run first inning on their way to a 12-2 victory. It was Everett’s fifth career homer. In his rookie season, Everett batted .256, belted eight homers and stole eight bases in 128 games.
Adam Everett was named a first-team All-American shortstop at USC by Baseball America in 1998. He also had the great honor of winning a gold medal with the US Olympic Team at the 2000 Summer Games.
