Update: Body found in Edisto River on Sunday identified as Columbia man

The body found in the Edisto River on Sunday has been identified as a 28-year-old Columbia man, according to the Colleton County Coroner’s Office.

Bernard Lamar Stroman drowned, Deputy Coroner Richard Carter told The Island Packet Tuesday afternoon.

The body was found by fishermen in the area of Givhans Landing off Shad Lane, a Colleton County Sheriff’s Office release said.

“Several local residents checking trotlines stumbled across the body floating in the Edisto River,” a Facebook post by the Sheriff’s Office says.

An autopsy was performed Tuesday morning at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, the release said.

The Edisto River connects to the Atlantic Ocean in Colleton County. The county is located north of Beaufort County.

Colleton County Criminal Investigations Division is leading the investigation with assistance by the Dorchester County Sheriff’s Office, Dorchester Fire Rescue, the Colleton County Coroner’s Office and the S.C. Department of Natural Resources.
