Enter the Nutritious Cookie Contest at the South Carolina State Fair.
The purpose of this contest is to increase awareness of preparing cookies with less fat. The Columbia Midlands Dietetic Association is sponsoring the contest that challenges participants to find new ways to add flavor and reduce fat to make a healthier cookie.
The winner of the contest will receive $75. Use these tips to decrease fat in your cookie recipes:

-Use two eggs whites instead of one egg-Use 1 percent or skim milk instead of 2 percent or whole milk -Use evaporated skim milk instead of heavy whipping cream -Substitute apple sauce for oil

Entry forms for all Home & Craft Department exhibits must be received by noon Aug. 31 to avoid a late entry fee. Nutritious cookie recipes must be received by Sept. 12. The Park Seed Co. is offering a $100 gift certificate to the gardener/chef who submits the best recipe incorporating home-grown tomatoes of any shape and size. All entries will be available online, so at the end of the season you’ll be serving up delicious new dishes provided by fellow gardeners. To submit entries, e-mail your recipe to firstname.lastname@example.org with the subject Tomatoes Coming Out Our Ears Recipe Contest. Include your name, street address and email address.
