It's Thanksgiving. You are fretting over turkey-basting or travel plans to visit family. On our most turkey-and-football-focused holiday, don't forget to set aside time to be thankful.
We're here to help you remember what it's like to slow down, breathe, focus and give thanks. Here are several of our favorite thank-yous: lines that are sacred and irreverent, well-known, musical, silly or utterly simple.
"I am thankful for small mercies. I compared notes with one of my friends who expects everything of the universe and is disappointed when anything is less than best, and I found that I begin at the other extreme, expecting nothing, and am always full of thanks for moderate goods."
- Ralph Waldo Emerson
"over telephones we are saying thank you
in doorways and in the backs of cars and in elevators
remembering wars and the police at the door
and the beatings on stairs we are saying thank you
in the banks we are saying thank you
in the faces of the officials and the rich
and of all who will never change
we go on saying thank you thank you"
- "Thanks" by W.S. Merwin
Peppermint Patty: "Are we going to have a prayer? It's Thanksgiving, you know. Before we're served, shouldn't we say grace?" (Awkward silence)
Linus: "In the year 1621, the Pilgrims held their first Thanksgiving feast. They invited the great Indian chief Massasoit, who brought 90 of his brave Indians and a great abundance of food. Gov. William Bradford and Capt. Miles Standish were honored guests. Elder William Brewster, who was a minister, said a prayer that went something like this: 'We thank God for our homes and our food and our safety in a new land. We thank God for the opportunity to create a new world for freedom and justice.'"

Thanks for all the joy they're bringing

What would life be?
Without a song or a dance what are we?"

"Got no checkbooks, got no banks,
Still, I'd like to express my thanks.
I've got the sun in the morning
And the moon at night.
And with the sun in the morning
And the moon in the evening

"I want to take this opportunity to express my appreciation for the hundreds of thousands of letters - nearly 800,000 in all - which my children and I have received over the past few weeks. ... Whenever I can bear to, I read them. ... It is my greatest wish that all of these letters be acknowledged. They will be, but it will take a long time to do so. But I know you will understand. ... May I thank you again. On behalf of my children and of the President's family for the comfort the letters have brought us all. Thank you."
