This Dog's Love for His Special Saturday Treat Is Set Like Clockwork
Dogs can't read clocks, but they sure as heck know when it's time for food or a special treat.
One woman was dog-sitting a very good boy and shared a pretty funny clip from the weekend fun.

"I'm watching this dog," she shares, "and I just have to read you the directions that his mom left for me, OK?"
"I know this sounds crazy," she continues, reading directly from the dog mom's note, "but he seems to know when it's Saturday, and he often begs you for ice cream on Saturday evening. If he's being insistent about something and harassing you on Saturday evening, it's probably because he wants ice cream."

We watch as the woman goes into the freezer to grab the special dog treat.
"Am I supposed to feed this to him with a spoon," she wonders, "or can he just lick it out of the container by himself?"
Cut to a very smiley dog waiting patiently for his Saturday treat. We find out pretty quickly that he's perfectly capable of licking up every sweet bit all by himself.
"The way he slides into the kitchen like 'you know what today is!'" said one commenter jokingly.
"To be fair, he waited all week," shared another.
"Saw the breed type and realized 'oh, that's why he knows it's Saturday," noted another viewer. "Collie? They know the time and date of every exercise ever completed."

How Do Dogs Keep Time?
As we said earlier, dogs can't read clocks, and they certainly don't have the same sense of time that we do, what with all our calendar apps and alarm schedules.
Still, dogs seem to know what time you're supposed to be home from work, what time dinner is supposed to be ready, and of course, when it's Saturday so they can get their special treat!
If we did away with all our clocks and calendars, we would still have a pretty good sense of time. That's because of our internal clock called the circadian rhythm. Dogs have this same system, too, a biological clock that regulates body temperature, sleep-wake cycles and hormone levels. All this work going on inside our bodies tells us when it's time to take a nap or eat, and dogs have a very well-tuned circadian rhythm because it's what they rely on to tell time.
Dogs also have a very sensitive sense of smell, and they use this to tell when you're supposed to come home from work. When you leave in the morning, everything you touched smells like you, and this scent fades slowly as the hours tick by. Your dog can actually tell what time you usually come home, but just how much your scent has faded from the room!
Dogs also notice the way light moves throughout the house, noting that you might come home when the sunset starts or whenever the shadows in the living room get to a certain point. Of course, this changes with the seasons, and your dog keeps up with that, too. That's why they don't understand daylight saving time the same way we do. They're not used to the clock jumping forward and backward.
This sweet dog is obviously paying close attention to his mom's habits, and he knows that on the first day of the weekend, he's going to get a very tasty treat. It's important not to let him down. This is his worldview you're messing with!
