Several Midlands neighborhoods and organizations will hold free National Night Out events. Here’s a sampling:
•City of Columbia and Columbia Council of Neighborhoods:
4-10 p.m. Saturday at Finlay Park downtown. Live music, carnival rides, food, SWAT vehicles, K-9 demonstrations, safety displays and more. There also will be an attempt to break the Guinness Book of World Records record for the largest zumba class, starting at 7 p.m. The theme of this year’s event is “Famously Safe.”

6-9 p.m. Monday at Chapin United Methodist Church, 415 Lexington Ave., presented by the Lexington County Sheriff’s Department and Chapin Police Department. Law enforcement displays, hot-air balloon rides, live music, obstacle course and more
6-9 p.m. Tuesday at College Park, 423 College St., Batesburg-Leesville. Law enforcement vehicles, fishing and hunting simulators, free kids’ haircuts and fingerprint ID cards, face painting, live music, bounce house
•Cookout in Lexington:
6 p.m. Tuesday at Gibson Park, on Gibson Road. Hot dogs and snow cones, along with safety displays and other activities
6 p.m. Tuesday at Owens Field Park. Bounce house, firetruck, food, games and more
•Hyatt Park and Keenan Terrace:
6-9 p.m. Tuesday at Hyatt Park, 950 Jackson St. Kids’ games, bounce water slide, food, West African drumming, steel band, safety displays and more. The park is located within the boundaries of North Main, Monticello, Jackson and Lamar.
Newcastle neighborhood: 6-7:30 p.m. Tuesday at 202 Newcastle Drive. Storytelling, blood pressure and blood sugar screenings, games and more
6:30-8 p.m. Tuesday at Hollywood Park. Music, ice cream and other activities
•Other Richland County events:
More than 300 Richland County neighborhoods will recognize National Night Out, with events Tuesday. Times vary by community but generally are within the 5-8 p.m. time frame. Among neighborhoods with events are Richland Village Apartments, 1234 Universal Drive; The Summit, Clemson Road; Lake Carolina, Town Centre; Woodlands Forest Greens Neighborhood Association, 9 Baldur Court; Lower Richland, at the high school, 2615 Lower Richland Blvd.; Carriage House Apartments, 110 Amsterdam Drive; Newcastle Neighborhood, 202 Newcastle Drive; St. Andrews Pointe Apartment, 1510 St. Andrews Road; Courtyards at Providence Plantation, Providence Crossing.
