AllSouth Federal Credit Union opened its new downtown headquarters Thursday at the corner of Elmwood and Gadsden streets – a gateway to Columbia.
The 60,000-square-foot, three-story building includes the credit union’s mortgage department and a consumer banking branch with three drive-through lanes and an ATM on about four acres.
The $12 million project allows the credit union to bring operations from two buildings – on Parklane Road and North Trenholm Road – together under one roof. About 100 employees are working in the building, and another 12 to 15 new jobs will be added, the company said in a release.
“Throughout our 54 year history AllSouth has expanded our presence across the 8 counties of the Midlands that we serve. We are thrilled that our new Headquarters will welcome everyone to our Capitol City each day,” AllSouth board chairman Walter B. Todd said in a statement.
AllSouth has 23 branches in the Midlands, including several inside Wal-Mart locations.
Formerly known as Fort Jackson Credit Union, AllSouth is a full service, not-for-profit, member-owned, financial cooperative, which serves more than 100,000 members worldwide. Anyone who lives, works, or worships in the eight-county Midlands region is eligible to be a member.
LCK, an affiliate of Colliers International, provided project management services for the planning, development and construction of the facility.
The company began working on the project more than two years ago.
