Columbia's South Carolina Bank and Trust this week will officially open a teller training center that looks like a real branch.
The training center is on the second-floor of the bank's Gervais Street headquarters, just above an actual working branch.
New tellers will spend a week in class and a week in the training center before heading to work at a branch office, spokeswoman Donna Pullen said. Typically, tellers spend two weeks in class before heading to a branch.
While in the training center, new tellers are expected to do the same things they would in a real branch, including dealing with customers, Pullen said. (Trainers will pretend to be customers.)
"There's zero margin for error when dealing with customers," she said. "This helps us better prepare tellers and is another way for us to provide the best customer service."
