Next spring, South Carolina residents can get rebates of $50 to $500 for energy efficient appliances under a federal program.
The rebates are available for South Carolinians who replace old appliances with Energy Star certified refrigerators, dishwashers and water heaters.
The amount of the rebate will be based on the cost of the appliance and the difference in the cost between a standard appliance and the energy-efficient model.
Customers must turn in their old appliances, which participating stores will then recycle.
South Carolina will receive nearly $4 million in rebate funding from a share of $300 million in federal stimulus that's being distributed to each state for the appliance swap.
The S.C. program is expected to start in March and will continue until all the funds are exhausted.
