Forbes magazine has ranked Columbia as one of the metropolitan areas in the nation that offer the most "bang for the buck."
When measuring housing markets, employment, cost of living and length of commutes, Columbia came in at No. 12.
Among other metro areas in the top 100: Greenville, No. 20, and Charleston, No. 27.
To come up with its rankings, Forbes analyzed real estate and employment data in the Midlands, including foreclosures as a percentage of housing units; vacancies; unemployment rates; future job growth; future home prices; and median real estate taxes.
Omaha, Neb., took the top spot, followed by Little Rock, Ark., and Jackson, Miss.
