People & Achievements


Magen Starnes has joined Scott McElveen as a staff accountant in assurance and advisory services. She completed her master of accountancy degree at USC.

The S.C. Association of Certified Public Accountants recognized these Midlands accountants with its annual awards:

Malynda M. Grimsley of Hobbs Group won the 2009 President's Award, given by the board president for significant contributions to the society. She has been served as president of association's Central Chapter and chaired its membership and benefits committee.

Amanda S. Colgate of Godshall & Colgate, won the 2009 Young CPA Award. She is involved with the association's Young CPAs Leadership Cabinet.

Larry B. Mack of Haynsworth, Sinkler Boyd won the 2009 Outstanding CPA in Business and Industry award for contributions to the enhancement of the profession. He is involved with the American Bar Association's law practice management core finance group and sits on the Association of Legal Administrators S.C. chapter board.

Alan F. Grismley of Derrick Stubbs and Stith won the 2009 Public Service Award. He devotes at least six hours a week of community service, including, the Richland Sertoma Club, USC Alumni Association of Richland & Lexington Counties and Lake Murray Presbyterian Church.


G. Michael Baughman has joined Abacus Planning Group. He has worked in McLean, Va., and Greenville.


Joseph Alton Bivens has qualified for certification as a specialist in taxation by the S.C. Supreme Court.


RSVP Columbia received the President's Club Award from RPVP Publications based on circulation revenue, new client acquisition and client retention.


David Sloan has joined the National Kidney Foundation in Columbia as the director of development and marketing for the Carolinas.
