Dan Elswick of the S.C. State Historic Preservation Office, Department of Archives and History, has been named a recipient of the Secretary of the Interior’s 2012 Historic Preservation award. The award recognizes achievements of federal, state, tribal and local preservation program employees who contribute to the preservation of historic places. For more than 25 years, Elswick has been instrumental in the development and evolution of preservation policy and programs in South Carolina. In addition, he assisted the National Park Service with the federal tax credit program and provided guidance for projects involving multiple buildings. Elswick’s architectural expertise has significantly helped South Carolina implement the goals of the National Historic Preservation Act.
