Urban Cookhouse will open its newest location at 3000 Devine St. on Saturday, Aug. 19.
The opening comes 21 months after the Columbia-based restaurant chain submitted an application for special zoning for a drive-through pickup window at the location which is at the corner of Devine and Sims Streets in the Shandon neighborhood. Despite protests from area residents who claimed the window would add congestion and impair pedestrian safety, the Columbia Board of Zoning Appeals approved the request 4-1.
Headquartered at 3200 Devine St., Urban Cookhouse currently operates seven locations in Alabama, one in Tennessee, one in Georgia and one in Charlotte, N.C. The eatery recently opened a location in Mt. Pleasant and, last year, opened its first Columbia-area restaurant in the former Atlanta Bread Co. location on Lake Murray Boulevard in Irmo.
