On Aug. 9, 1977, Dennis Hiltner took over as owner of the Saluda Avenue Wine and Liquor and That Place Party Shop at 724 Saluda Ave. in Five Points, transitioning it into The Gourmet Shop two years later.
On Wednesday, Hiltner will celebrate his 40th anniversary as the shop owner and will mark the day with a 25 percent off store-wide sale.
An indoor/outdoor cafe with specialty cheeses, coffees, wine and high-end cookware, The Gourmet Shop has had a loyal customer following.
"For over three decades, they have been a staple in the village and truly embody the daytime spirit of the Five Points community," said Amy Beth Franks, director of the Five Points Association.
