Five months after opening, Mr. D's Steakhouse in Lexington will soon be under new ownership.

Steve MacDougall, Lexington mayor and general manager of the restaurant, told The State that he is buying the restaurant at 983 N. Lake Drive from current owner, Steve Deese, who also owns Lexington County's Encore Boat Builders ("Home of Bentley Pontoons"). Deese is selling the business due to health reasons, according to MacDougall, who said the sale will be final by mid-August.

While MacDougall plans to keep much of the restaurant the same--including the decor and name--he has already made some changes to the menu, eliminating some of the more elaborate, time-intensive dishes to keep the focus on the restaurant's popular steak and top seafood offerings while also adding simple Southern sides such as an already highly requested sweet collards.

MacDougall--who has managed multiple restaurants in Columbia and Lexington over the last 23 years--plans to have a grand re-opening of the eatery in early September.
