The City of Columbia is opening its Inclement Weather Center to “provide shelter for those who may need a warm environment during the colder temperatures.” The National Weather Service forecasts temperatures dropping into the mid-30s overnight Saturday into Sunday and Sunday into Monday.
The center, located at 191 Calhoun St., will be open Saturday, Sunday and possibly Monday, City Manager Teresa Wilson said. A decision about Monday’s operation will be made later this weekend.
The center’s hours of operations are 6 pm until 7 am.
People interested in staying at the center will not be granted access unless they catch a bus at the bus transfer station located at Laurel and Sumter Streets. Buses run to the center between 5:45 pm and 7 pm.
Security at the center is provided by the Columbia Police Department.
