A rather gloomy Monday was made just a bit brighter with the arrival and erection of the state Christmas tree at the South Carolina State House. This year’s tree is a 29-foot-tall Concolor Fir, also known as a white fir. It stands 33 feet tall in the tree stand in front of the Confederate Soldier Monument at the State House’s north entrance.
This is the second year the S.C. Garden Club and the Columbia Garden Club have worked with Pinetum Christmas Tree Farm in Swanton, Md., to bring the perfect tree to Columbia. SCE&G will string 11,000 LED lights and the garden club will assist them in hanging 900 ornaments. The teams plan to finish decorating by Friday. The tree will stay dark until Dec. 1, when the 48th Annual Governor’s Carolighting is scheduled to be held.
