A Columbia man who may have had car trouble was struck and killed by oncoming traffic on I-20 Sunday, officials say.
Cornell Boyd, 57, died at the scene of the accident, Richland County Coroner Gary Watts said in a statement released Sunday night.
The accident occurred near exit 64 at the I-20 and I-26 interchange shortly after midnight, Watts said. It appeared that Boyd was walking back to his vehicle after experiencing car trouble and died as a results of his injuries, he said.
Boyd was struck by a car heading westbound on the interstate, Sgt. Bob Beres with the South Carolina Highway Patrol said. The driver of the car was not injured, he said.
The highway patrol is continuing to investigate.
