John Calvin Knight, 61, of Gaston,and Mario Martinez, 27, of West Columbia,were killed when the pickuptrucks they were in collided at the intersectionof S.C. 6 and MeadowfieldRoad, according to the LexingtonCounty coroner.
The driver of a Ford Ranger inwhich Martinez was riding ran a stopsign at about 12:30 a.m. and struckKnight’s GMC pickup, police said.
The driver of the Ranger and anotherpassenger were taken to PalmettoHealth Richland hospital withinjuries. Their names were not released.

Sprinkler douses apartment fire
A sprinkler put out a fire in a ReadStreet apartment Sunday morning.The fire started about 5 a.m. likelyfrom a discarded cigarette in a fourth floorapartment of Oak-Read Highrise,said Deputy Columbia Fire ChiefAubrey Jenkins.
A couch and curtains in the livingroom ignited, but a sprinkler put outthe fire, Jenkins said, adding thatwithout it the damage could havebeen much worse.
Firefighters arrived and had todeal only with minor smoke in theapartment and hallway.
Boy hurt in bus crash dies in hospital
An 11-year-old boy critically injuredin a church bus crash last weekdied Sunday, a spokeswoman forGreenville Hospital System said.
Austin Green was a sixth-graderat Liberty Middle School, hospitalspokeswoman Sandy Dees said.
He was injured in a crash Wednesdaynight when the Lakeview BaptistChurch bus he and nine other childrenwere riding in ran off a ruralhighway and crashed into a tree.
Eight of the children and the busdriver were injured.
Two other children and an adultremained at Greenville Hospital, Deessaid. All were listed in good condition.
