WIS reporter has surgery for brain tumor

Drew Stewart, a jack-of-all-trades at WIS-TV, underwent surgery for a brain tumor Thursday at Lexington Medical Center.

Tina Luque-Blacklocke, WIS' news director, said the surgery was successful, according to Stewart’s mother, who said doctors believe the entire tumor was removed.

The tumor was discovered over the weekend.

Stewart, a 33-year-old Summerton native and rabid Gamecock fan, isn’t a public figure like, say, Craig Melvin or Joe Pinner, but he’s a valuable team member on-and off camera

“He’s part of the soul of the station,” said Barry Ahrendt, director of marketing and programming.

A sports photographer and reporter, fill-in anchor and spot news reporter, Stewart is a versatile newsman.

Ahrendt said Stewart possessed a "tremendous range of talent."

Stewart and his wife, Jill, have a 22-month old son, Mason.

WIS is keeping a blog with Stewart updates at wistv.com.
