Rusty Miller looks at the damage to his home on Adger Road after Monday afternoon’s storm, which initially caused more than 19,000 homes in Columbia to lose power, said Tara Hart, an SCE&G spokeswoman. The outages hit the Heathwood and Cottontown areas, as well as other parts of the city. About 4,600 people in the Columbia and Lexington areas were without power as of late Monday night. Several thousand other SCE&G customers in the Midlands and Lowcountry also lost power. The storm knocked down trees and power lines across the middle of the state, the National Weather Service said.
