Officials with the Lexington/Richland Alcohol and Drug Abuse Council break ground today on a new behavioral health center.
The $12.2 million building will be at 2711 Colonial Drive, near Palmetto Health Richland and the Columbia Area Mental Health Center.
Construction is expected to take 12 to 14 months.
A groundbreaking ceremony will be at 9 a.m., featuring state Sen. Joel Lourie, D-Richland; Richland Councilman Greg Pearce; and state Rep. Tracy Edge, R-Horry, among others.
The future of the current service center is uncertain. LRADAC has been using the decrepit red brick building along Harden Street, once a nurse’s dorm for the old Columbia Hospital, for some 30 years.
