More than 100 volunteers picked up trash Saturday along the Saluda River, gathering an estimated 4,080 pounds of litter.
Those involved in the Beach Sweep/River Sweep cleanup collected 131 bags of litter and 73 bags of recyclable materials, according to a news release from Keep the Midlands Beautiful.
Unusual items included two grills, a fire extinguisher and an anchor.
Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, members of the Irmo High School Earth Club and USC marine sciences students were among the participants.
