Columbia Mayor Bob Coble has declared 2009 the Year of the Tree.

You can apply for a tree grant at columbiagreen.org.
The first tree, a laurel oak, was planted Thursday in the Celia Saxon neighborhood — where neighborhood president Bobby Brown christened it the “tree of hope.”
