The city of Columbia issued a boil water advisory Saturday afternoon for homes near a water main break at 907 Beltline Blvd.
The advisory applies to city water customers in the following areas: the 700 to 1100 blocks of Beltline Boulevard; 800 to 900 blocks of Woodland Drive; and 4200 to 4400 blocks of Devereaux Road.
Residents in those areas are asked to vigorously boil their water for at least one full minute prior to drinking or cooking. Any ice made from water that has not been boiled should not be used for drinking purposes.
A 14-inch water main break at 907 Beltline Blvd. could result in bacterial contamination of the water in those areas, according to the city.
City workers are working to fix the break.
