Midlanders gather along the shores of the Saluda River near Riverbanks Zoo and frolic in the cool water Sunday. SCE&G is scheduled to release water this week to provide needed flows for the Columbia Fire Department to conduct swift water rescue training. Water will be released each day from May 11 through May 15 beginning at 5:30 a.m. and continuing through late afternoon.
Users of the Saluda River during these times are advised to use extreme caution, especially in areas where swift water can be hazardous. Flows for these releases will be in the "red" range, the highest category of water release, according to SCE&G.
