Attorney General Henry McMaster, who was to formally announce his candidacy for governor this week, has put his 2010 campaign on hold due to the death of his mother.
Ida Dargan McMaster, 88, died peacefully at her Columbia home on Saturday night, McMaster said in a statement released Sunday.
Funeral services for her will be held on Tuesday at 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in downtown Columbia.
McMaster indicated his campaign, including a kickoff state-wide tour, will start next week.
In 2010, South Carolina will elect a successor to Gov. Mark Sanford.
