More than 100 S.C. high school students gathered at the State House on Friday to learn about and discuss the U.S. Constitution with historians, judges and attorneys, including S.C. Supreme Court Justice Donald Beatty and S.C. historian Walter Edgar.
The purpose of the event, sponsored by the S.C. chapter of the American Board of Trial Advocates, was to raise awareness about the document and its Colonial history.
"What we have in this country is too much regionalism and too much local pride and not enough national endeavor. That's especially true in the South," said Joel Collins, event organizer.
"We hope this event brings a newfound appreciation and knowledge of the Constitution."
