UNION - Union County Clerk of Court Brad Morris has resigned amid an investigation into his handling of financial accounts.
The resignation came as prosecutor Kevin Brackett announced he had asked the State Law Enforcement Division to audit the accounts Morris oversees. The prosecutor for Union and York counties said he's concerned the account managing child support payments may be overdrawn.
In his letter to Gov. Mark Sanford, Morris wrote he was "seeking forgiveness from God for my shortcomings." Sanford will appoint his replacement.
Morris could not be reached Saturday.
Earlier in the week, other Union County officials were indicted on federal charges.
