SLED agent arrested for stealing gasoline

South Carolina's State Law Enforcement Division on Tuesday announced the arrest of a SLED agent from Allendale County accused of stealing gasoline.

Ronnie Smith, 46, of 380 7th St. East, in Fairfax, is charged with three counts of petit larceny and one count of misconduct in office.

According to arrest warrants, Smith is accused of using a state-issued gasoline credit card to purchase gas for his personal vehicles and a gas can between the dates of November 2001 to October 2009.

Smith, who had been a SLED agent since 1985, was arrested Monday in Allendale County. He was fired Oct. 14 while the agency obtained warrants for his arrest.
