Conference focuses on forestry industry

Leaders from government, academia and the forest industry are meeting to discuss ways to grow South Carolina's $17 billion forestry industry.

Among topics planned for the conference at Harbison State Forest in Columbia are discussions of the economic, political and environmental effects on forestry.

It will also focus on a plan to increase the impact of forestry to $20 billion within six years - a plan dubbed "20-by-15."

The sponsors of the conference, the S.C. Forestry Commission and the S.C. Forestry Association, say it's the first meeting of its kind ever held in the state.
