Kids get your crayons ready.
Beginning today, students in grades six through 12 can participate in a statewide art competition hosted by The Children's Trust of South Carolina.
The 2010 Picasso Project is open to all students attending public, private and home schools as well as after-school art programs in South Carolina.
The competition will include first, second and third place regional winners whose work will be exhibited in their region. The students will then go on to compete in a statewide juried competition in Columbia.
Gift certificates will be awarded to the top three state winners for both middle and high schools and the competition will culminate with a gala in which all first place regional winners' artwork will be sold in a silent auction.
Proceeds from the auction will support The Children's Trust of South Carolina, which works to eliminate child abuse and neglect and promotes strong families and safe children.
To be considered, artwork must be submitted regionally so students in Kershaw, Lexington, Richland and Sumter Counties should drop off entries at the Lexington County Public Library System, 5440 Augusta Road, Lexington. Registration forms, criteria and deadlines can be found online at www.scchildren.org.
Registration closes Feb. 5.
