Clemson is No. 1?
In at least two important measures, freshmen at Clemson can make that claim in a comparison with freshmen at the University of South Carolina.
Half of Clemson's incoming freshmen were in the top 10 percent of their graduating classes, according to statistics on the College Board Web site. USC saw 30 percent of its incoming freshmen finish in the top 10 percent of their graduating classes.
Clemson's incoming freshmen out-performed their counterparts at USC when it came to grade-point average as well, with 79 percent of new Tigers earning a high school grade-point average of at least 3.75. New Gamecocks - 61 percent of whom had a high school grade-point average of at least 3.75 - couldn't quite match that success.
