A 23-year-old Columbia woman who struck a 12-year-old child riding a mini-bike in West Columbia will likely not be charged, West Columbia police said Monday.
The child, Kareen Goodman, 12, of 1438 Poplar St., Cayce, suffered head injuries and was taken to Palmetto Richland. No word was available on his condition.
“It appears to be a situation where he (the child) just ran out in front of her,” said Maj. Jackie Brothers.
The driver, whom Brothers declined to identify, stopped after the accident and apparently was not exceeding the speed limit, Brothers said.
Goodman was not wearing a helmet and his mini-bike is not approved for roadway use, Brothers said. The accident happened Sunday afternoon.
