Paul Livingston will continue for a second year as chairman of Richland County Council.
The council's longest-serving member got the unanimous endorsement of his colleagues Tuesday.
Under a council measure given preliminary approval, the chairman would receive a $1,500 stipend in addition to an annual $14,500 salary.
The chairman sets the agenda and runs council meetings. He also represents the county at various meetings, ceremonies and functions.
The council's vice chairman is Damon Jeter, also returning for a second year.
