Snow updates and weather cancellations

Some snow fell in Lexington and counties north of Columbia, but little if any accumulated on paved surfaces.

Lexington, Saluda, Newberry, Fairfield and Kershaw county public schools will operate on a two-hour delay. In Lexington 3, 3- and 4-year-old morning preschool programs are closed, but the afternoon programs will operate as normal. Also, the district will not serve breakfast.

Snow started moving into western Lexington County around 5 p.m., and flakes were falling in Lexington by 8 p.m. But above-freezing temperatures limited accumulation. National Weather Service observers reported 1.75 inches in Saluda by 8 p.m., an inch of snow in Edgefield by 6:15 p.m., a quarter-inch in Batesburg by 6 p.m. and .2 inches in Lexington at 8 p.m.

While snow had been falling off-and-on in Greenville all day, it was mixed with rain and didn't stick much. Only a half inch was reported on the ground in Greenville at 6 p.m.
