Deputies: Gaston man lured teens to shed

A convicted sex offender in Lexington County has been arrested for allegedly enticing teenage boys to his home with alcohol and drugs.

Charles Franklin Church, 47, of Gaston has been charged with providing obscene material to a child, contributing to the delinquency of a child, manufacturing marijuana and simple possession of marijuana, the Lexington County Sheriff's Department reported.

Church is accused of inviting a 15-year-old boy and a 16-year-old boy to a shed where he lives in Gaston. The shed is on the property of one of Church's relatives, and one of the boys lives nearby.

Church allegedly gave the boys marijuana, Michelob Ultra beer and Jack Daniels whiskey and let them look at magazines with pictures of nude women, the Lexington sheriff reported.

When deputies searched the shed, they found several small marijuana plants growing inside and they also found a manila envelope with photos of nude men, the sheriff's report said.

Deputies also reported that Church allegedly had drawn pictures of nude children on the shed's walls.

Church is a registered sex offender who was convicted of aggravated sexual battery in 1997 in Tennessee.

He is being held at the Lexington County Detention Center.
