Fires destroyed two Richland County houses Sunday morning in different sections of the county.
The county Fire Marshal’s office is investigating each blaze, said acting Columbia fire chief Aubrey Jenkins. No injuries were reported in either blaze.
The first fire started about 2:30 a.m. at a single-story house on 109 Quantas St., about a mile northwest of Sesquicentennial State Park. The fire was burning uncontrollably when firefighters arrived on the scene. More than $100,000 worth of damage was done.
The second fire — on Dry Branch Road in lower Richland — was reported about 6:30 a.m. Sunday. When firefighters arrived on the scene, the single-story structure was engulfed in flames.. This house is generally located about a mile east and north of Ft. Jackson and south of I-20.
Both houses were unoccupied at the time of the fires.
